Tickets

In Rome tickets can be purchased from disposable machines at major bus stops, metro stops, train stations. They can be usually purchased at newsstands and "Tabacchi" (tabacconists’). They can also be bought at the counters of train stations.

BIT -
(the acronym stands for "Time integrated ticket") -
A BIT ticket costs 1 euro and can be used on all buses, subways and trams in Rome. This ticket allows 75 minutes of travel after the initial validation on the buses and trams and only for 1 ride on the subway or 1 ride on an urban train or on trains to Ostia or Sacrofano.

BIG - (Integrated Daily Ticket) -
A BIG ticket costs 4 euros and it is a good deal if you're planning to visit a lot of places. The day pass can be used for unlimited rides until midnight on the day on which the ticket is validated. It is accepted on ATAC buses and trams, the subway, and COTRAL buses in the city limits. This ticket also only permits 1 ride on the subway or 1 ride on an urban train or on trains to Ostia or Sacrofano and cannot be used for travel to Fiumicino Airport.

CIS - Integrated Weekly Pass -
The CIS ticket costs 16 euros and can be used for 7 days. It is basically a weekly version of the above mentioned BIG ticket. It permits unlimited travel on all Roman buses and subways, on trains to Ostia or Sacrofano and 1 trip on an urban train during the 7 days.


Sanctions


Fine of Eur 51,00 in addition to the payment of the ticket for passengers who have not got the ticket .


Useful information


Mind the pickpockets on the bus and on the train. Keep the bags closed and hold them tight !
